Sharpeville care of the aged has partnered with eskom’s Lethabo power station to celebtate Mandela day in Rhoda Yende hall in Sharpeville.
Eskom staff were involved in various activities, including cleaning,gardening,cooking food and painting the building and prepare for a special breakfast and lunch for the elderly. The eskom Lethabo staff team also brought staff members who work on repairing and maintaining the stoves, light bulbs, and other electronic appliances. Additionally, the youth staff from Eskom contributed by working in the garden.

When VUT FM repoter Oupa Sefatsa interviewd Tshepo Mabote Rhode Yende Center manager shared an important initiative that took place two weeks before Mandela day, where the elderly residents were given the opportunity to tour the Eskom plant in Lethabo. During this visit, they were shown the workings of various electrical appliances and educated about electricity and its operations. The main objectives of this initiative was to provide the elderly with valuàble knowledge and understanding of electricity and its appliances in everyday life.
